LARGE COMPANIES BACK MAYOR MEYERA OBERNDORF

Stihl Inc. is backing Mayor Meyera Oberndorf's bid for re-election with a $10,000 check.

"I guess that was an indication that they have confidence in me and the service we render as a council," Oberndorf said.

"In recognition of this working relationship and her service to the city of Virginia Beach, Stihl made a donation to Mayor Oberndorf's re-election campaign," the company said in a news release. "We look forward to working with Virginia Beach's mayor, city council and staff to strengthen the city's economy and promote Virginia Beach" both in the United States and abroad.

POLICE, FIREFIGHTERS AND TEACHERS ALL ENDORSE MAYOR MEYERA OBERNDORF FOR RE-ELECTION

VIRGINIA BEACH

A group representing more than 2,900 city employees has endorsed a slate of eight incumbents and two challengers for the November city elections.

The police, firefighters and teachers associations endorsed Mayor Meyera Oberndorf, three City Council members seeking re-election and four current School Board members after a meeting of representatives Wednesday night.

Offshore drilling debated by Va. Beach mayor candidates.

VIRGINIA BEACH

To drill or not to drill, that is the question being debated in Va. Beach.

Mayor Meyera Oberndorf on Thursday told the Lynnhaven Business Association that the city needs to be careful in the offshore drilling debate. "Virginia Beach has 38 miles of shoreline. I just want to make sure while it’s done, it preserves our opportunity to enjoy our beaches,” she said.
